Premier Response to CDC Maternal Mortality Data

Premier is determined to reverse the maternal mortality trend described in today’s CDC report. One of the principle ways we will tackle this problem is through improvement efforts, including leading HHS’s Perinatal Improvement Collaborative. This collaborative brings together more than 225 hospital systems in all 50 states, using performance improvement tools and standardized data to measure outcomes for both mothers and babies – linked both together and as individuals. Recent data from this collaborative effort has tied an increase in maternal mortality and complications to COVID-19 infection among pregnant women and supports data reported from the CDC. Premier and HHS plan to share a full report of this groundbreaking data to help inform clinical decisions and spread best practices for scale across the nation to reduce maternal and infant morbidity and mortality.
