Sustainability at Premier
Transforming healthcare is more than our vision – it’s in our DNA – and sustainability is woven throughout our mission, culture and business practices.

Our Mission is quite simple: improve the health of communities. We view this not only as our mission, but our social responsibility.
Our sustainability strategy reflects the intersection of our mission and business strategy and is centered on the environmental, social and governance (ESG) areas most critical to our stakeholders, guiding how we strive to make a positive impact for our communities, employees, partners, suppliers and the environment. We believe that our long-term success and sustainability strategy are interdependent and start with our unique culture – one that is committed to making a difference in all that we do.
Making a Premier Impact
We aim to lead the transformation to high-quality, cost-effective healthcare by supporting care for people who have been historically marginalized using a multifaceted approach - our business solutions, healthcare advocacy and community development efforts.
Improving Patient Outcomes and Lowering Costs

Premier’s supply chain services help our members manage non-labor expenses and capital spend, enhancing healthcare quality and cost-effectiveness. We enable our members to provide better healthcare and improved outcomes at a lower cost for patients by improving the quality, efficiency, sustainability and resiliency of the healthcare supply chain and by leveraging our industry-leading technology capabilities powered by one of the nation’s largest repositories of clinical, operational and financial data.
Supply Chain Environmental Sustainability
We are also committed to supplying our members with products that support the health of their patients, staff and communities. As part of this commitment, our sourcing committees include data on environmental impact in their contracting decisions. Enabled by our data-driven approach, forward-thinking supply chain teams are driving continued green innovations in healthcare that cut costs over the long-term, reduce environmental impact and minimize negative consequences on public health.
In pursuing our mission to improve the health of our nation’s communities, we are committed to environmental stewardship. We integrate eco-friendly practices into our operations and provide our members with resources to consider environmental factors in their purchasing decisions. Premier’s Environmental Policy, endorsed by our Board and senior management, guides these initiatives.
Addressing Climate Change
We are cognizant of our duty to reduce the environmental impact of our operations in a fiscally responsible manner and are taking steps to shore up our resilience and adaptability. We are utilizing a phased approach to understand our baseline emissions as an organization, establish effective governance and oversight structures, and identify the next steps to take to do our part in a transition to a low-carbon economy.
For more information on our approach to managing our key climate-related risks and opportunities, please see the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) table in our 2024 Sustainability Report.
In addition, as part of our commitment to the Health Sector Climate Pledge from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), in 2024 we developed our first climate resilience plan, using the five recommended elements for climate resilience plans outlined by the U.S. Office of Climate Change and Health Equity (OCCHE). This climate resilience plan is designed to serve as a roadmap for Premier to assess the impacts of climate change on our business as we strive to maintain operational continuity and ensure the well-being of our employees, healthcare provider members and communities.
