More than 100 Organizations Support the Prompt and Fair Pay Act

More than 100 hospitals, health systems, non-acute care providers and national hospital organizations joined Premier in voicing support for the bipartisan Prompt and Fair Pay Act (H.R. 4559). In a letter spearheaded by Premier, the organizations called the legislation a bold and necessary step toward holding Medicare Advantage plans accountable for paying providers fairly and on time.

Introduced by Reps. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) and Greg Murphy (R-NC), the Prompt and Fair Pay Act addresses rampant payer delays and denials, which result in unnecessary financial and administrative burdens on providers as well as negative impacts on patients’ ability to access medically-necessary care. Specifically, the bill would:

  • Extend prompt payment and equity standards to in-network Medicare Advantage providers, aligning them with protections already in place for out-of-network Medicare providers;
  • Reduce administrative waste caused by delayed or denied claims; and
  • Improve patient access to care by ensuring providers are paid efficiently and fairly.
