Premier Calls for Reauthorization of Pandemic and Emergency Preparedness Programs

Premier joined more than 80 organizations in sending a letter to Congressional leaders calling for reauthorization of the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act (PAHPA) before the end of the 119th Congress. The letter urges lawmakers to advance a comprehensive reauthorization package to strengthen the nation's public health preparedness and response capabilities amid evolving threats, including disease outbreaks, natural disasters, emerging technologies and other health security risks.
PAHPA, which serves as the foundation for many federal preparedness programs, expired in 2023 and has since been maintained through a series of temporary extensions. Premier and the other signatories emphasize that a long-term reauthorization is needed to provide stability and oversight for key programs within the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), including the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA). The organizations underscore the importance of maintaining and strengthening capabilities related to medical countermeasures, personal protective equipment, supply chain resilience and hospital preparedness.
