Premier Recommends DOJ Action to Remove Barriers to Innovation and Competition in Healthcare
Premier submitted comments to the Department of Justice (DOJ) on opportunities to streamline regulatory burden and unleash innovation. Premier offered recommendations in response to a solicitation from the DOJ’s new Anticompetitive Regulations Task Force, which is looking for input on regulations that create unnecessary barriers to competition, particularly in key sectors such as healthcare. In its detailed comments, Premier calls on the DOJ to focus on:
Establishing national privacy priorities and clarifying how enforcement decisions will be made, giving the entire market a level playing field on which to compete;
Examining ways to equalize information blocking penalties and fairly redistribute the responsibility for ensuring free data sharing and interoperability between providers and other healthcare actors; and
Coordinating with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to ensure that current regulations do not decrease competition for innovative medical technologies.
