Premier Submits Comments to House on “21st Century Cures 2.0” Legislation
Premier submitted comments to Reps. Larry Bucshon (R-IN) and Diana DeGette (D-CO) in response to a request for stakeholder feedback as they contemplate developing “21st Century Cures 2.0” legislation.
Congress passed the original 21st Century Cures legislation with broad bipartisan support in 2016, intending to address barriers impeding research, discovery, innovation and interoperability. A follow-up bill, known informally as “Cures 2.0” was introduced in the House by Rep. DeGette and former Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI) in 2021. In our letter, Premier highlights several priority areas for Congress to consider as lawmakers continue oversight of implementation of the original 21st Century Cures Act and consider provisions for a possible new version of Cures 2.0, including:
Recommendations for enhancing adoption of innovative clinical trial approaches;
Reauthorizing the Pandemic and All Hazards Preparedness Act (PAHPA);
Incorporating real-world evidence into regulatory decision making;
Strengthening cybersecurity of medical devices;
Ensuring access to home infusion services under Medicare;
Incentivizing adoption of interoperable information technology in long-term and post-acute care settings;
Providing further extensions of telehealth and hospital at home policies; and
Reforming Congressional Budget Office policies to more accurately capture savings from preventive health initiatives.
