Premier Supports Legislation to Bolster the Healthcare Workforce

Premier joined 44 other healthcare organizations in sending a letter of strong support for the Conrad State 30 and Physician Access Reauthorization Act (H.R. 1585/S. 709). The bipartisan, bicameral legislation reauthorizes and updates the Conrad 30 program, which permits foreign doctors who complete graduate medical education in the United States to obtain a J-1 visa waiver following residency, while requiring them to practice in rural or underserved areas for at least three years.

The House version (H.R. 1585) was introduced by Rep. David Valadao (R-CA-22) and joined Reps. Brad Schneider (D-IL-10), Don Bacon (R-NE-02) and Sylvia Garcia (D-TX-29). The Senate version (S. 709) was introduced by Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) joined by Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME), Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Thom Tillis (R-NC).
