Premier Urges Elimination of Cost Sharing for Chronic Care Management
Premier joined 32 other organizations in sending a letter of support for the bipartisan Chronic Care Management Improvement Act of 2023. Introduced by Reps. Suzan DelBene (D-WA) and Jeff Duncan (R-SC), the bill would eliminate a Medicare beneficiary’s cost-sharing for chronic care management (CCM) services.
CMS began reimbursing clinicians for primarily non-face-to-face chronic care management under a separate code in the 2015 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule. While an important step to help providers effectively manage chronic conditions and improve patients' health, Medicare beneficiaries are subject to a 20 percent coinsurance requirement. This bill would remove that financial barrier for patients to receive CCM services.
