Premier Weighs in on DOJ Efforts to Protect American’s Health Data
Premier submitted comments in response to a Department of Justice (DOJ) proposed rule that would limit the bulk transfer of American health data to countries of concern. This policy has wide-reaching implications, particularly for healthcare, and sets a strong precedent for placing privacy and security at the center of data policy.
Premier is committed to developing a more robust privacy posture and a more resilient supply chain across healthcare – from hospitals to payers to medical device manufacturers and software-paired pharmaceuticals – in order to preserve patient safety and critical healthcare capabilities in the face of increasingly pernicious threats from a range of bad actors. Premier specifically asked the DOJ to consider focused efforts on the following:
Finalizing proposals that would help stop the flow of Americans’ sensitive health data to countries of concern.
Urging organizations to adopt privacy and security measures to increase compliance with this proposed rule.
Recognizing the importance of supply chain resilience and strong domestic supply chains, both of which can be enhanced through the protections and exemptions in this proposed rule.
