Premier Weighs in on House Hearing Scrutinizing CMS Innovation Center
Premier joined four other national organizations in submitting a statement for a hearing the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee convened to evaluate the success of the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) and the transition to value-based care. The statement emphasized that while some elements of the current alternative payment models (APMs) have shown success, few have been permanently expanded, leading to uncertainty for participants. The groups recommend that Congress collaborate with CMMI to ensure promising models have a more predictable pathway for implementation and permanent adoption into Medicare. To achieve this, Premier joined in urging Congress to direct the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and CMMI to address gaps in APM opportunities, broaden criteria for model expansion based on enhancing the quality of patient care or access to care, engage stakeholders during APM development and improve model evaluation strategies.
