Statement on CMS Innovation Center Strategy Refresh
The Premier healthcare alliance applauds the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for committing to the goal of moving all Medicare beneficiaries to arrangements with accountability for quality and total cost of care by 2030.
Premier has long advocated for this as it incents providers to deliver more equitable care by focusing on the health of the populations they serve and proactively managing care. We look forward to working with CMS to achieve its stated objectives of advancing health equity, driving care innovations, addressing affordability and partnering across payers to drive change.
We urge CMS to increase regulatory flexibility so providers can better innovate care and design new payment arrangements as well as to incent private payers to rapidly adopt alternative payment arrangements. As a first step to implementing this vision, we encourage the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation to test innovations within the Medicare Shared Savings Program and make changes to Direct Contracting that would encourage more provider participation.
