A longtime leader in healthcare improvement, we’re developing new ways to revolutionize the industry.
Premier applauds Sens. Tom Carper (D-DE) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Reps. Michelle Steel (R-CA) and Brad Schneider (D-IL) for their bipartisan leadership to help strengthen our nation’s healthcare supply chain through greater diversification, including domestic and nearshore sourcing opportunities.
The Medical Supply Chain Resiliency Act (S. 2115 / H.R. 4307) would permit the establishment of trusted trade partners to diversify sourcing for medical devices and pharmaceuticals and enable timely access to the vital supplies providers need to care for patients during a public health crisis or national security threat.
“Premier has been a long-standing leader and advocate for appropriate geographic diversity to mitigate risk, reduce overreliance, and help create a more sustainable and secure healthcare supply chain for U.S. providers and patients. The COVID-19 pandemic provided a dramatic case in point: for critical healthcare products and drugs, there should be three or more global suppliers and at least one U.S.-based and/or nearshore source. This legislation is essential to encouraging greater diversification – and to help strengthen the resiliency of supply chains for life-saving medical products and services,” said Michael J. Alkire, President and CEO of Premier, Inc.
“A core pillar of Premier’s Healthcare Policy Roadmap for the 118th Congress called for speeding the implementation of reforms to create a more transparent, diverse, competitive and reliable healthcare supply chain. The Medical Supply Chain Resiliency Act aligns with these recommendations and would allow for investment in domestic manufacturing coupled with strategic trade relationships – including countries with a demonstrated commitment to global health security, rule of law, and transparency – to encourage nearshoring. Premier urges Congress to pass The Medical Supply Chain Resiliency Act to help ensure that critical medical products are delivered safely, swiftly, and efficiently to providers and patients,” added Soumi Saha, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs of Premier, Inc.
