Statement on the Long-Term Care Pharmacy Definition Act of 2021

Premier applauds Sens. Tim Scott (R-SC) and Mark Warner (D-VA) and Reps. Kurt Schrader (D-OR) and Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) for reintroducing the bipartisan Long-Term Care Pharmacy Definition Act of 2021. This legislation is an important advancement in differentiating the critical services long-term care pharmacies (LTCP) provide to the nation’s oldest and most vulnerable beneficiaries.

The lack of a statutory LTCP definition has led to different policy directives across federal agencies, presenting unforeseen hurdles in recent years for seniors. We look forward to working with Congress on swift passage of the bill, which will ensure needed clarity and consistency for LTCPs without adding costs to the healthcare system.
