Statement on the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Nursing Home Quality Report
By Blair Childs, Senior Vice President, Public Affairs
Premier is strongly behind the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s recommendations to find pathways to provide financial incentives for electronic health record (EHR) adoption, measures of health information technology adoption and interoperability, and training to support such adoption in all nursing homes.
The time is ripe to look at lessons learned during the pandemic and to level the playing field for long-term and post-acute care (LTPAC) providers who were excluded from receiving any funding under the Health Information Technology for Economic Clinical Health (HITECH) Act. We urge Congress to enact policies to incentivize nursing homes and other LTPAC providers to implement EHRs and electronic clinical surveillance technology to move the needle on quality of care, patient safety, and infection control during this pandemic and beyond.
