Premier Calls for Congress to Prioritize Value-Based Care
As part of the Alliance for Value-Based Patient Care, Premier sent a letter to House and Senate leaders calling for an end-of-year healthcare package that includes an extension of Medicare’s Advanced Alternative Payment Model (APM) incentive payments and ensures that Advanced APM qualifying thresholds remain attainable. The letter underscores the urgency in extending eligibility for the Advanced APM bonus, which expires Dec. 31, 2024, to enable providers to continue to invest in expanded care teams, adoption of population health infrastructure and enhanced services. Pointing to the success of APMs in achieving savings and delivery high-quality care, the groups urged Congress to help sustain and grow participation in value-based payment models, particularly in rural and underserved communities. Joining other members of the Alliance, Premier also urged lawmakers to replace a scheduled cut to Medicare’s physician payments with an update reflective of inflationary pressures.
