The meltdown of the healthcare supply chain caused by the arrival of COVID-19 found hospitals, doctors and other providers scrambling for essential supplies and personal protection equipment.

But the crisis served merely to uncover structural weaknesses in the supply chain that were in place long before the latest pandemic.

On this episode, we speak with David Hargraves, senior vice president of supply chain with Premier, Inc., the supply chain and healthcare technology company that advises more than 4,400 health systems and 225,000 other providers, with the goal of building resilience into the healthcare supply network.

He discusses the changes that have already been put into place, including a greater reliance on domestic vendors, and diversification of the supply base. But the industry still has a long way to go before achieving true resilience and reliability.
