Premier Statement on Next Generation ACO Model Results
Premier congratulates all of the Next Generation Accountable Care Organizations (NGACOs) for reducing Medicare spending by more than $123 million during the program’s first two years. In performance year 2018, all six NGACO participants in Premier’s Population Health Management Collaborative generated more than $70 million in savings to Medicare, resulting in shared savings payments in excess of $63 million back to their organizations. These six ACOs are truly leaders fostering the movement toward risk-based payment models that push providers to better manage care, improve patient satisfaction and outcomes, and advance innovative care models.

The NGACO provides the programmatic flexibility and payment evolution needed to break away from the fragmented fee-for-service system and permits the implementation of alternatives that reward quality, safety, coordination and efficiency by progressive industry leaders. We will continue to urge CMS to make the NGACO a permanent voluntary program going forward, support the efforts of industry leading health systems, and work with providers to achieve continued success in these innovative models.
