A longtime leader in healthcare improvement, we’re developing new ways to revolutionize the industry.
We announced our new partnership with Boston Children’s Hospital, one of the largest pediatric medical centers in the country.
What we’re saying: Consistently ranked as the top children's hospital in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, Boston Children’s signed a multi-year agreement with Premier for access to our industry-leading supply chain services, including our group purchasing organization and PremierConnect® supply chain analytics.
Last week, Premier announced we’re working with 10 hospitals to lower preventable maternal and neonatal harm and deaths. Over the next two years, hospitals in Premier’s Perinatal Collaborative will design, test and adopt evidence-based improvement strategies that can be replicated, standardized and scaled nationally.
What we’re saying: Participants in this collaborative, part of Premier’s Bundle of JoyTM Campaign, will focus on reducing mortality and disparities in care, preventing adverse events, ensuring patients are treated in the correct and most appropriate setting, increasing the delivery of evidence-based care, enhancing patient and family engagement and improving the overall health of women and newborns. Premier will support collaborative participants using its performance improvement methodology, which is backed by data on 1.2 million births.
A recent blog by Premier’s Jerry Frazier, PharmD, revealed our price inflation estimates for pharmaceuticals. The projections show a 1.8 percent drug price inflation rate for non-disproportionate share hospitals and a 1.7 percent inflation rate for disproportionate share hospitals. These updated rates are approximately 0.2 percent less than Premier’s previous projections of a flat 2 percent increase.
What we’re saying: This is good news, especially as health systems face increasing financial pressures and compressing margins. Most of the inflation is on non-Premier contracted items, which are typically on-patent, branded pharmaceuticals that do not go through the competitive group purchasing process.
What We’re Watching is a weekly blog focused on the current events Premier is following and their relevance to the work of Premier and its members. Check out last week's update.
