Premier Applauds Introduction of the Prompt and Fair Pay Act
Premier commends Representatives Murphy and Doggett for introducing the bipartisan Prompt and Fair Pay Act (H.R. 4559)—a bold and necessary step toward holding Medicare Advantage plans accountable and ensuring providers are paid fairly and on time.
A recent Premier survey revealed that 95 percent of providers experience payment delays from Medicare Advantage plans, with more than one-third waiting over 90 days to get paid. The survey also showed that 70 percent of denials were ultimately overturned and the claims paid, but only after multiple, costly rounds of review resulting in over $20 billion in administrative waste annually. That’s not just a billing issue—it’s a barrier to care and a threat to provider sustainability.
This legislation directly addresses the inequities Premier and our members have long raised: aligning payment timelines and standards for in-network and out-of-network providers and putting real guardrails in place to protect patients and the providers who serve them.
Premier is proud to support this effort to bring fairness, transparency and accountability to Medicare Advantage.
